Ingredients
for roasting oats:
- 1 cup quick cooking oats / rolled oats
- ½ tsp oil
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
other ingredients:
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 2 dried red chillies
- 8 to 10 cashews
- 1 inch ginger, chopped
- 1 green chilies, chopped
- ½ onion, finely chopped
- ½ carrots, chopped
- 6 french beans, chopped
- 5 curry leaves
- ¼ cup green peas
- few coriander leaves, chopped
- 2 cups water (or as required)
- 1 tbsp ghee or oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- salt as required
Instructions
roasting oats:
- firstly, heat ½ tsp oil in a pan and add 1 cup of oats and a pinch of turmeric powder.
- fry them till they turn crisp.
preparing upma:
- firstly, in a pan, heat 1 tbsp oil. add 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp urad dal and 2 dried red chilli. wait till the mustard seeds crackle.
- now add few cashews / groundnut and curry leaves.
- add finely chopped onions. saute till they turn pinkish.
- then add chopped chillies, carrots, beans.
- also add green peas and cook for a minute or two.
- then add the roasted oats. stir lightly.
- add salt, sugar, turmeric powder as required.
- then sprinkle 1 to 2 cups of water slowly.
- on a low flame, steam the oats upma covering with a lid for 5 to 6 minutes.
- furthermore, add chopped coriander leaves and squeeze some lemon juice.
- finally, oats upma is ready.
